Motorised Curtain Track Measurement Guide

Use this simple guide to measure your window for a custom motorised curtain track.

1. Before you start measuring

  • Please use a metal tape measure.

  • For each side, take measurements at three points (top, middle and bottom) and use the smallest width.

  • Check whether there are any obstacles at the installation area (such as cornices, curtain boxes, beams, window frames, handles, etc.) to make sure the track can be installed smoothly.

2. Finished track length & opening style

  • Straight track (single side)
    Measure the actual width from wall to wall or between your planned fixing points.
    Then subtract 4 cm (about 2 cm of clearance on each side) and select this reduced value as the finished track length in the “Please select the finished track length (m)” dropdown.

  • L-shaped / U-shaped track
    First, add up the measured lengths of all sides and select this total length in the
    “Please select the finished track length (m)” dropdown.
    For surface-mounted L-shaped and U-shaped tracks (face fit / wall mount), please refer to the detailed measurement diagrams below. On the product page, enter the measured values for AB and CD (and FG, if applicable), and make sure the total matches the finished track length you selected.

  • Recessed track inside a curtain box
    For a recessed track inside a curtain box, please enter the measured values for the labelled segments in the corresponding input fields on the page (AB, CD and E for an L-shape; AB, CD, FG and E for a U-shape).
    All values should be the actual measured lengths, with no deductions.

  • Double track
    If you need a double track for sheer + blockout curtains, please select
    “Double track (sheer + blockout)” in the Track layers option.

  • Opening style (single draw / centre open)
    The track supports both single-open and centre-open styles.
    You can choose your preferred option according to your window layout and usage habit in the “Opening style” setting.

Our motorised curtain tracks are pre-assembled at the factory, so you do not need to do any complex DIY assembly. We will professionally bend and cut the track into sections according to the type and length you select. On site, you only need to join the sections and fix the track in place by following the instructions.

If the power supply has been pre-wired and the fixing positions are marked, an experienced installer can usually complete the installation of a standard straight track for one window in about 10–20 minutes.
For L-shaped / U-shaped or more complex window shapes, as well as first-time installations, the installation time may be longer.

Wall-Mounted Curtain Track Measurement

Full-wall width measurement (A) for a smart motorised curtain track across large sliding glass doors.

Non full-wall track:

Measure the clear window-frame width A, then add about 40 cm on each side. The recommended finished track length is approximately A + 40 cm + 40 cm. If your wall space is limited, you can reduce the side extensions as needed. In the “Please select the finished track length (m)” dropdown, choose the option that is equal to or closest to this calculated length.

L-shape Surface-Mounted Track Measurement

Measure the total track length
Follow the wall layout and measure the two sides of the L-shape separately:

  • Measure the A–B segment (in meters);

  • Measure the C–D segment (in meters).

Add A–B + C–D together, and select this total length in the product option
“Please select the finished track length (m)”.

  1. Select the track type
    In the product option “Track type”, please select:
    “L-shape – 90° track”.

  2. Fill in each segment length
    In the corresponding input fields on the product page, please enter:

    • AB segment (m): enter the actual measured length from A to B (in meters);

    • CD segment (m): enter the actual measured length from C to D (in meters).

  3. Important note
    Please enter the actual measured values for AB and CD only.
    Our factory will handle:

    • the 90° bending,

    • track joining, and

    • any allowance and reduction needed for installation.

    You do not need to subtract any length yourself.

Full-wall track:

Measure the clear full-wall width A where the track will be installed, then subtract 4 cm from this measurement (leaving about 2 cm clearance on each side). The reduced value is the recommended finished track length – in the “Please select the finished track length (m)” dropdown, choose the option that is equal to or closest to this reduced value.

U-shape Surface-Mounted Track Measurement

  1. Measure the total track length
    Follow the wall layout diagram and measure the three sides of the U-shape separately (in meters):

    • Measure the A–B segment;

    • Measure the C–D segment;

    • Measure the F–G segment.

    Add A–B + C–D + F–G together, and select this total length in the product option
    “Please select the finished track length (m)”.

  2. Select the track type
    In the product option “Track type”, please select:
    “U-shape – 90° track”.

  3. Fill in each segment length
    In the corresponding input fields on the product page, please enter:

    • AB segment (m): enter the actual measured length from A to B (in meters);

    • CD segment (m): enter the actual measured length from C to D (in meters);

    • FG segment (m): enter the actual measured length from F to G (in meters).

  4. Important note
    Please enter the actual measured values for A–B, C–D, and F–G only.
    Our factory will handle:

    • the 90° bending,

    • track joining, and

    • any allowance and reduction needed for installation.

    You do not need to subtract any length yourself.

Measuring L- & U-Shaped Recessed Curtain Tracks (Inside a Curtain Box)

L-shape 90° Track (Inside Curtain Box)

  1. Select the track type
    In the product options under “Track type”, please select:
    “L-shape – 90° track”.

  2. Measure the track lengths inside the curtain box
    Based on the measurement diagram, measure the following (in meters):

    • A–B: along the inside of the curtain box, from the inner corner to the end of the vertical side.

    • C–D: along the inside of the curtain box, from the inner corner to the end of the horizontal side.

    • E: the curtain box depth (distance from the inner wall to the front edge of the curtain box).
